Shooting Star

In this tutorial we will add stars to a photo that doesnt have any ant after that we will make one shooting star. Astrology calls. Astronomy as well :)

Open the photo with dark background, preferably a night scene. If you dont have any, use mine, here it is:

(It is MY photo, I hope you like it)

Make new layer and fill it with white. Use Brush Pallet Window/Brushes to set the following:

in Brush Tip Shape

Diameter (depending on the size of the picture) is 5px

Hardness is 40%
Spacing is maximum

in Shape Dynamics

Size jitter (means variation - some will be small some big) 70%

Minimum Diameter is 1%

in Scattering
Scatter is maximum
Count is 1
Count jitter is 100%

That was about the brush. Now, in that new layer use Brush tool with Black color as foreground color on white background. Because of the previous settings, you will get something like this:

Now, to isolate the stars itself, use Magic Wand tool and select the white background. After that, inverse selection Select/Inverse selection.

I am glad you liked it. It was not that hard to make from the technical point of view, but the problem was that I have not seen the shooting star for longer than 2 nanoseconds :) Good idea, I am so proud of myself :D thx

Very nice tutorial, but as an amateur-astronomer I can say that the stars as well as the comet look lousy, sorry.

(: Wow so easy to follow. Good job. Instead of using the 'Outer Glow' effect. I duplicated the layer, and did a Gaussian Blur (4.7px) Does the same thing. : P But if you do both outer glow & GB, it makes a bigger shine. Hehe, I'll stop wasting your life. Anyways. Nice tutorial.

Beautiful ! I'm looking for an illustration about shooting stars for a children's paper magazine (humble... 1000 readers) edited by a family association. May I use your picture ? I'll quote your credit and will give you more information if needed. Thank you ! Julie
